Fire safety is an important factor when it comes to the safety of you and your family. You want to ensure that in the event of a fire, you and your family are well prepared and informed on what to do if a potential fire were to take place in your home. The Red Cross has compiled a simple list of the top tips for fire safety.
- Make sure you have smoke alarms installed on all levels of your home, inside bedrooms and outside the bedroom area.
- Regularly test your smoke alarms every month to ensure that they are working properly. To make it easier, mark a day on your calendar or include a reminder on your phone to make sure you test your alarms.
- Have an escape plan in place with your family or those you live with. Include all the exit points for how to safely escape during a fire. Make sure you have a safe meeting place where you can all meet up once you’ve escaped.
- If a fire does occur, do not waste any time, and get out of your home immediately. Do not try and gather items or go back in once you’ve escaped. Remain outside a safe distance and call 911.
